Latest technique for Soft Tissue (Gum) Grafting with Alloderm (cool stuff!)

Recently, I took intensive training in the latest dental implant surgical procedures in Charleston, S.C., at the Medical University of South Carolina College of Dental Medicine.
Part of the training focused on the “AlloDerm” technique of soft tissue grafting. It was conducted by Dr. John Russo, an author and international lecturer on bone grafting and dental implant surgery and a member of the faculty at the Medical University of South Carolina.
AlloDerm has been used successfully in other medical procedures, including hernia repair. AlloDerm is cadaver skin that has been reprocessed to remove the cells leaving only the connective tissue matrix. In the past, dentists had to harvest donor tissue from the palate to cover the root surfaces of our patients with root recession...and the tissue grafting only prevented the gum recession from getting worse.
Using AlloDerm, now we can actually cover some of the exposed root surface and raise up the gum. When the root surface is exposed, it’s very sensitive to cold water.
Other important advantages of AlloDerm include:
• The patient does not suffer from a sore spot in the roof of the mouth for 30
days while it heals.
• It is far less painful than the traditional procedure.
• It is esthetically more pleasing because the AlloDerm goes under the existing
gum. This eliminates the “big bump of tissue graft” of the past.

We are working hard to provide comprehensive care for our patients needing complex dentistry. We take care of our patients from beginning to end. We can take their CAT scan, place their dental implants and do all of their complex cosmetic and rehabilitative dentistry right here in our office. By offering IV Sedation, patients can have their dentistry all done in just a couple appointments in many cases. We also craft their new permanent teeth right here in our office. Now, we can do the latest technology in soft tissue (gum) grafting that our patients need. We are determined to make our patients’ lives easy and save them time.

Writing an Implant Book

I am writing an Implant Book explaining all the options available in this field in the 21st Century. As in every field, there are always opinions on new information, products and techniques. In my book, "No One Should Die With Their Teeth in a Glass", I offer my opinions on such topics as Mini-Implants and their uses, Osteoporosis, Bone Grafting and Diabetes. Of course, my favorite part of the book is where I explain the patients' treatment choices for missing teeth and denture problems. I give the pros and cons with such options as Snap-On Teeth, Teeth in One Day, All on Four, Mini-Dental Implants...just to name a few. I'm really excited about my book. Of course, I spent way too much time on it. ;-)

Aging, Missing Teeth and Systemic Disease

Aging, Bad & Missing teeth, Systemic Diseases, Dentures & Implants

A report in the Journal of American Geriatrics (March 2008) found that people age 70 or older and who have no teeth are significantly more likely to report mobility problems (such as difficulty walking or climbing stairs). The authors have suggested a number of behavioral and socioeconomic factors may be related to the observed accelerated aging in this group. There is also a number of other associated factors such as poorer nutrition and an increase in systemic diseases found in people with dentures and missing teeth. A related study detailed in the September 2008 Journal of the American Society showed an additional high correlation between tooth loss, dentures, and dementia.

Dr. Receveur receives Dental Advanced Life Support certification

"We're proud to offer sedation dentistry, allowing more people to obtain care while they are comfortable and relaxed". I just "re-certified" my ACLS training in Atlanta, sponsored by DOCS education, which is the same training that doctors, nurses and paramedics receive.

For many Americans, going to the dentist is a frightful event, even though dental techniques have evolved greatly in recent years. An estimated 145 million people avoid dental care out of fear, compromising their oral and overall health as a result.

I've always been very sensitive to my apprehensive patients, and now I can offer them a safe and more relaxed experience. I'm looking forward to increasing the number of people I can help.

DOCS is the fastest growing dental organization of its kind. I'm a member of DOCS...it's purpose is to provide dentists with the continuing education necessary for improving patients' lives through better dental health.

Dentistry is very high-tech today with all sorts of gadgets that get the job done better and in a more timely manner. With sedation dentistry I can bridge the gap between technology and comfort.
